Introduction

This guide is to help you build a IR blaster which connects to the serial port of your computer and will be used to control your STU (for Foxtel, Austar etc.). There are plenty of guides on how to build the IR blaster on the net already so I wont cover it again here (links to these guides are below). What I will cover here is where to obtain the parts needed and how to connect it up to the foxtel STU.

This page is a work in progress.

I bought this card some years ago now and had it working well for free to air on an older version of Myth. I lost interest for a time, and recently installed the card in a new box on which I then installed MythDora. Previously I had not realised that the longer cable on the same plug as the remote control was an ir-blaster, albeit an led type with extremely limited range. To cut a long story short, this now works flawlessly in changing channels on my Foxtel Sate…

Introduction

This guide is to help you run two ir blasters from the same system. This is useful when you have two or more Foxtel (or similar) set top boxes connect to your mythtv system. You may first like to read the Configuring Lirc for Foxtel and Building a IR Blaster guides. This guide assumes that both have already been done and lirc is currently working with one serial ir blaster.

The Hauppauge PVR-150 card was shipped with an IR Blaster. This is the longer cable on the same plug as the receiver for the remote control. Albeit it is only a cheap led component with a very limited range, but as I have just found, it is sufficient to change channels on the UEC DSN 1000 Foxtel Satellite Box. As at the date of writing this I am using Mythdora 10.21, and it did require some effort to get the blaster working. These instructions may not be necessary and/or appropriat…
