Hauppauge PVR-150 Blaster and Foxtel (UEC DSN 1000) Satellite Box

Introduction

The Hauppauge PVR-150 card was shipped with an IR Blaster. This is the longer cable on the same plug as the receiver for the remote control. Albeit it is only a cheap led component with a very limited range, but as I have just found, it is sufficient to change channels on the UEC DSN 1000 Foxtel Satellite Box. As at the date of writing this I am using Mythdora 10.21, and it did require some effort to get the blaster working. These instructions may not be necessary and/or appropriate for those running other distributions and/or Myth versions.

This is a work in progress and will be completed gradually as I have the time.

I have drawn extensively on the instructions in this Wiki.

Summary of Steps Required

1. Place IR Blaster in appropriate position on UEC DSN-1000.
2. Install Patched version of LIRC. The version of LIRC shipped with Mythdora 10.21 did not include support for the PVR-150. Users of other distributions may not need this step.
3. Install new /etc/lircd.conf which will be provided.
4. Configure system to load new lirc_pvr150 module instead of lirc_i2c.
5. Configure system to run lircd on startup with new module loaded.
5. Install modified channel change scripts which will be provided.
